A few years ago P&S and Knelson worked on a novel scrubbing and recovery option to win chromite units from elluvials, a resource that was virtually ignored in favour of mined hard lumpy ore. Ironically, the geological process that degrades the ores into these outwash zones does a fantastic job of liberating the individual chromite spinel grains. All that is necessary to recover the near-pure chromite is to apply the high G force field of the Knelson CVD concentrator! Not only does the CVD recover the dense chromite grains, the patented fluidization feature performs a vital secondary task - it elutriates out the contaminant red iron slimes that otherwise lower the quality and Cr/Fe ratio. This fortuitous combination of features happens simultaneously in the CVD in a virtual blink of an eyelid, such that the contrast between the black concentrate and thick red tailings almost defies belief. With a small footprint and relatively low weight a complete processing facility can be trailer mounted for ease of relocation, an absolute must when pursuing shallow resources over large areas. The P&S laboratories are all equipped with pilot Knelson CVD test facilities to allow comprehensive evaluation of chromite resources whilst also generating confident upscale data for the larger plant modules.
